Your first question is all a matter of opinion.

    >I use a betta for this question.
    >What size tank? Nothing under 2.5 gallons, but preferably 5+ gallons.
    >What size filter? A small air pump powered sponge filter.
    >What type of food? I use Hikari betta pellets, frozen bloodworms, krill, and brine shrimp.
    >Bettas are carnivores.
    >Tank mates? Tropical communtiy fish. Avoid gouramis, guppies, known fin nippers, and fish with a similar look.
    >What type of plants? Anything really. I keep mine with amazon swords, microswords, water wisteria, and crypts.
    >They are tropical and require a heater to maintain the temperature between 77F-82F.

~You really should have specified to begin with:

    Ram dwarf cichlid:
    >Tank size: 20 gallons minimum.
    >What size filter? I always go ten gallons over for tropical tanks.
    >What type of food? I feed mine frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and krill. I also feed a tropical granule.
    >Omnivores.
    >Tank mates? Tropical community fish. I keep mine with marbled hatchets, and corydoras.
    >What type of plants? Anything really. Amazon swords are nice for them.
    >Tropical.
