What is more effective, a diy pond filter or one you buy at the store?

I just built a 750 gallon pond and I am on a tight budget. As many people know a good filter is usually about 0+ but I don’t have that kind of money to spend. I found online a do it yourself filter on youtube. I wanted to know which would you think would be more effective. Here are my two choices, a DIY filter made out of a Rubbermaid container or this store bought one for 0 for a 1,000 gallon pond. My goal is to get one that needs minimal cleaning and keeps the water clear. I provided two links, one of ebay and one of youtube.com. If you don’t want to use the youtube link just go on youtube and type "diy pond filter". For ebay type "pressurized filter 1000" and it should be the first one on e-bay.

Do YOU use Y!A for research purposes & review back existing (similar) Questions before posting a Q's?

I’ve often seen duplicated Questions appearing on the same section within the same week & often it’s by the same user.
Thus, I wondered do Y!A have any functions to filter duplicated Questions.
I also wondered if any use Y!A for research purposes & how much do they trust the resources online here.

Can I upgrade the video card of this notebook?

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptop-reviews/?filter=1000036_2792031_500140_5323650_&tag=mncol

I planned on purchasing the dv3-1075 but the video card is not good. I was wondering if the video card could be upgraded. If so than if you could help point me into the right direction of compatible video cards from newegg.com

If I can’t upgrade it than would the dv3510nr be a good choice?

Can I get distilled water using a faucet filter, pitcher filter, or a stage filter?

Which one of these will do the best job giving me 100% distilled water?

Faucet Filter:

Pitcher Filter:

Stage Filter:

Otherwise there is the system that is actually labeled for distilling water, but it’s costy and I want this to be my last choice if the above two doesn’t actually distill water:

I have a 'Culligan' Mark V water softner machine in my garage. How does it work?

It has a big steel tanks attached . . and a big salt tank. I emptied the salt out of the tank (it was nasty) . . . and bought new salt for it. How do I get it to work? I pushed the ‘recharge button’ and pushed the red button also & it started to backwash. It is doing that right now. After that I don’t know what to do. . . any help would be great. Also, should I get a new filter for it (new steel container). Thanks!!!!

I am going to start a salt tank….?

My co-worker and i are going to put together a small 27 gallon bio-cube reef/salt tank. he knows more than i do about the process and i love to learn from him, but i love to hear from outside sources so i can compare. So here are my questions: The tank is an awesome set up: it comes with a great lighting system compatable for corals, live rock, etc., overflow, & filter. My co-worker said i need a protien skimmer, but i dont know if hes right. Is this neccessary? Also, the store we work at sells salt water, but it is inconsistant but our tanks in the store are beautiful and we use it there, should i buy the water or mix my own? Which is the safest? Should i use livesand? I plan to use 3-4 damsels and a small amount of live-rock to cycle my tank. Any other suggestions?

What is the term used to describe someone who uses word pictures to explain them self?

I’m having a brain freeze and can’t think of the right word here. What would you call a person who uses a comparison of two totally different things to try to explain themselves?
IE: My husband hates to fight & he holds in his bad feelings. The problem is they slowly seep out over time. It can take weeks to actually creep out. He didn’t get how bad this is, so I compared him to a pool when the pump/filter system broke. When a bit of junk got in the pool, it was no big deal and so they just left it there. They planned to get the pump fixed and were going to just clean it all out afterwards. Well time went by and more junk fell in the pool. Since nothing was being taken out, the water got mucky. Next thing they knew, 3 weeks passed by and the pool was green and nasty. It got worse as the pool started to over flow & the wrotten water went everywhere. Just like his attitude when he holds stuff in. What would you call this trait/process?
