How big is my fish tank?

The pet store near us say we cam fit 15 coldwater fish in it I think it’s 100 litres or more I have 3 goldfish in it one is almost 15cm long 2 shubunkins 1 sarasa comet 3 canary White goldfish and 2 bronze fantails they look perfectly fine how long will they live it didn’t look crowded it looks like I cud fit 8 more fish oh yh I have a small fish tank maybe 10 litres I kept 4 fish in ther no filter I used 2 change the water 6 times a yr maybe and never had to use fish medicine like aqua plus or that just normal tap water the pet store near us said it was pure look but I think it was the tank they lived 4 three yrs I moved them to a bigger tank with a agrresive goldfish who killed them all he was a male goldfish huge he jumped out the tank wen I was changing da water

How do I tell non-toxic ammonia from toxic ammonia?

I recently bought an Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Ammonia test kit and found out that my freshwater tank has 1.0ppm of ammonia in it. I went to my local pet store and the people there recommended HBH Aqua-Pure Zeolite Granules Ammonia Reducer which were in little chips that I put in my filter. So then I took out my activated carbon (which was in there previously) and replaced it with the Ammonia chips.
The next day I tested the water again and it was still at the same level. Is this because some of the toxic ammonia was converted into non-toxic ammonia that was still being read by the API test kit? How can I be sure?

Also, will the debris from the tank still be filtered without the activated carbon in it?

Tri-color gold fish now white?

We have a 6 gallon tank, with 3 very healthy gold fish. We clean like we are suppose to, feed as we are suppose to, use tap water that is filtered by us, plus add Aqua Plus water treatment liquid according to the directions. Roosevelt is the "typical" orange color, Churchill is black & orange, and Hilter was black (on his upper lip hince his name) orange & white. We’ve had them for several months, and have had no health problems with any of them. Over the past 2 weeks Hitler went from the tri-color fish to a pure white…except for a very light orange tint to part of his tail. We asked the people at the store we got them from, and they said we are doing everything right, but should try feeding them "color enhancing" food. We have only noticed that the white is now alot "brighter". Has anyone ever had this happen to their goldfish or do we have a very special boy??
Kay: Sorry I didn’t mean to give you a thumbs down…and the boys are about 3 inches each and have plenty of room, as they grow so will their tank as we will buy larger.

How do I get my aquarium to cycle?

I need serious help. I set up a 46 gallon aquarium at the beginning of June and can’t get it to cycle. Unfortunately, I have listened to advice from 3 different pet shops, and all 3 had different answers. I initially ran the aquarium for a week, then my local pet shop told me to add bacteria and 2 goldfish, which I did. Of course the ammonia climbed, as it should have, so next, 2 pet stores told me I had to perform frequent water changes, preferably some every day, which I did-about 2 gallons every morning, which kept the ammonia at about .5 ppm. Fish stressing from ammonia. I kept this up until a couple weeks ago. I had a Tetra Whisper filter and could not figure out how the bacteria filter would grow in that setup. The NEXT pet store told me the filter was no good, so I switched to an Aqua Pure three-stage filter which includes sponge material for the bacterial colony. They said my frequent water changes were keeping the aquarium from cycling and that I should stop it until cycling had occured. They also suggested I add Bio-zyme every day for a week, which I did per the instructions. They told me it would cycle the aquarium in a week. Nope, still no cycling occuring. Ammonia has been at 1.0 ppm for a week now and I am afraid I am going to lose both my fish. What the heck am I doing wrong?? Where should I go from here?
In response to the first answer-has the bacteria had long enough to grow, since I switched filters a week ago? Or does it exist on all surfaces, not just the filter?

Salt water fish tank filters?

Now I need help with the filters. It’s a 35 gal salt water tank that was a fresh water tank not filled yet. I was told I could use a Bio wheel, but after looking into it they seem to have alot of faults, as the wheel stops turning from time to time, and if you loose power and the wheel dries out you’re screwed. I have a Aqua Pure 200 that is rated very good for all 3 types of filtering that I used on my fresh water tank that worked very well. I know the filter system in a salt water tank is somewhat different then fresh, but I was told again that the AP200 along with a powerhead would be fine for that size tank, was I informed right? To set up my tank I plan on using the sand sold in the store, and live rock, then let it cycle for a few weeks. Is that enough to get the Bio going? Or do I need to do anything else? I was also told I do not need air stones in a salt tank as I did in fresh water tank as long as I have a powerhead?

I`m going to petsmart in a little bit to take care of some fish needs and need some more of that kind of stuff.

Also, what on earth is HBH Aqua-Pure ammonia reducer? A friend of my dads gave us a 40 or 50 gal tank along with the setup, all the fish products, basically 00 worth of stuff. This product was included and I have no idea how to use it. I dont need to use it yet, but it would be a good idea to know how to.

It says to place rinsed zeolite granules in aqua-pure filter media bad of other filtration equipment. What does that mean?
No it isnt new. The previous owner had the tank for several years. She got rid of it because she was moving and didnt have enough room for it. There was only one fish left but it died.

Green haired algae and anenome?

I have tried everything to get rid of this algae in my tank, fish, aqua pure filter, use only RO water, light on only 8 hours a day. Only thing left that i heard could work is shutting the lights down for a few days. Will this help, and would it harm my anenome?

I just bought a new house with well water.We are having a problem with iron in our water and it’s dying everything yellow. We have a cheap aqua pure whole house water filter and I was thinking the most cost effective way to help this problem would be to buy another cheap filter. My quetion is can you have two water filters or will it slow down the flow of water or cause any other problems?
