My gold fish is sick and I need to know what it is?

Okay so, it seems like there is a lot wrong with this fish.
It’s just a normal gold fish that you can get at a carnival, it was my daughters, and I decided after a couple weeks, around the beginning of July, I would put it into my regular tank with my other fish.

It has lived for quite a long time, since sometime in June.
I know it’s probably going to end up dying, but I want to know what to treat the other water with the rest of my fish in it with.
I’m going to list everything I noticed that looks out of the ordinary at all.

First, it’s missing a few scales, but I don’t know if that’s got much to do with whats going on.
Towards the end of him, towards his tail fin, a couple of the scales look like they are bloody.
Also, his tail fin has not opened up in a few days. I haven’t seen it open up, at least. You know what I mean? The two little things are just together.
While he was in the tank, he would hide inside one of those little rock things with holes, all the way at the bottom, and would only come out when I put the net pretty much as close to the fish as I could.
His mouth looks like one side is just swelling up and is kind of like going in? Like, it looks like one side of his mouth broke, and went inward, and is blocking half of his "mouth hole" or whatever.
(Sorry if I sound super uneducated. lol)
Below the mouth, it looks like super thin and like it’s going to fall apart if he moves too much, like it’s just wasting away, and it’s not completely gone yet.
His top fin, whatever that’s called, has hardly come up, either.
And he seems to have this weird somewhat white-ish film? over his entire body?
It’s not like white, but it’s not what it normally looks like, at least I’ve never noticed it until now.
His face and him in general seems kind of bloated, compared to how he looked a couple days ago.

He’s been staying at the bottom of the tank for about 3 days now, and just today I noticed everything else.

I seperated him from the rest of the fish and put him in a backup smaller tank, and he’s still just kinda floating on the bottom, moving around every once in a while, and sometimes spazzing out, but I’m pretty sure that he recently changed tanks.

I know I probably can’t save him,
and so far I’ve put just some start right in the regular tank until I can completely clean everything tomorrow, including filter, water, etc.
I plan on testing the pH tomorrow before cleaning the water.

Please tell what I can do, if anything to save the rest of my fish from ending up like this.
What should I treat it with, if anything, and is there anything I should change?
When I am away for more than a day, I use bricks, but take them out after a couple days, I feed them standard gold fish food, I can’t think of the name right now, but it’s the food in the orange thing.
I haven’t had time to clean the filter and have been forgetting about it, I usually clean it when I’m supposed to, but I’m late this time, and I know that might have contributed to the problem some,
but it’s not like I’ve never cleaned my filter ever.

Please help, I don’t want to lose all my fish!
Also, the fish isn’t really eating, but that’s probably because of the mouth thing.

Oh gosh, please please please help!
My 7 year old would probably be scarred for life if all of our fish, some that we’ve had for a loooong time, all started dying because of one fish getting sick.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
ALSO, REALLY SORRY FOR THE LONG DESCRIPTION! I’M JUST REALLY WORRIED. :(

Brita Filter water for a fresh water a aquarium!?

So i have filled my tank with Brita filtered water. We have very hard tap water round here so i thought it might help get some of the bad stuff out. I did an ammonia test just because i was curious and i found that tap water actually contains less ammonia than the filtered water!…wtf? Why is that?

All-Glass Mini Bow 2.5 Gallon, Tetra Water Wonders 1.5 Gallon, Marineland Eclipse Explorer II and Bettas?

I have a very energetic indigo/red delta tail betta fish. I really want to get him a bigger tank.

The tanks that I am debating on getting are the Tetra Water Wonders 1.5 Gallon, All-Glass Mini Bow 2.5 Gallon, or the Marineland Eclipse Explorer II. I hope to upgrade to a 5+ in the very near future, but I just can’t get a tank bigger than 3 gallons right now (5+ is over my budget now, and I don’t have the time to maintain a bigger tank).

I like the Marineland Eclipse Explorer II:

~It’s very stylish.
~Has a light.
~Has a BioWheel Filter, which is very good.
~Easy to maintain, just plug it in.
~No noisy air pump! :D

I don’t like the Marineland Eclipse Explorer:

~It’s pricey compared to other tanks of the same size. It’s only avaliable online.
~Once the filter breaks (the electrical pump inside), I will not be able to get a new one. If I get a new one, I will have to pay the price of the tank itself!
~The light can break easily, but this isn’t my biggest concern.
~It doesn’t come with decor. (+$$$$)
~The cartridges are pricey ( for 1)

I like the All-Glass Mini Bow 2.5:

~It’s avaliable at most stores near me, including the non-pet stores.
~It’s visually appealing.
~It comes with a light.
~Pretty cheap.

I don’t like the All-Glass Mini Bow 2.5:

~The light can break easily.
~The Whisper 10i filter is big. (Not a big concern)
~No decor. (+$$$)
~The filter may be to strong for my betta.

I like the Tetra Water Wonders 1.5 Gallon:

~It’s compact in size.
~Very cheap.
~Comes with decor.
~Has a drawer.
~Has a light.
~The cartridges are cheap ( for 2)

I don’t like the Tetra Water Wonders 1.5:

~The light isn’t that bright.
~The filter is loud.
~The filter cartridges need to be changed more than others.
~The air pump is loud.

Now, I need help deciding which tank to get.

I really, really, like the Mini Bow 2.5 (It would be my choice), but I must know if the current is too strong for a betta! I know you can adjust the current, but some people say that it’s still strong. I am not interested in getting the Red Sea Deco Nano Art filter.

So, I’m probably going to get the Water Wonders. But, it’s still loud, and I don’t like loud things. And people say the noise is not easy to muffle.

I wish I could get the Explorer, but it’s too pricey. It’s a very good tank, though.

I already have supplies: water conditioner, food, etc. I will have to get a heater, though. Probably the Hydor 7.5 watts Mini Heater.

Please tell reviews, experience, and if you recommend any of the above tanks. I will choose an answer that includes review, experiences, or recommendations as best. (I am NOT getting tankmates for my betta.) If there are any small tanks that you recommend, please tell!

Again, I want to know a little about the tanks from your perspective.

Thank you! :D

What are those filters called….?

that are below the tank and it sucks out the water and filters it and runs it by a heater and then pumps it back into the tank? I found a full 55 gallon set-up with this type of filter for about 0 and a full 75 gallon set up for about 0. Is this a good deal? What is that type of system called so I can compare prices?

Should i use a under gravel filter?

I have just bought this tank.

http://www.aquariumsdelivered.co.uk/catalog/fluval-roma-125-aquarium-only-p-858.html

It comes with a Fluval 3 PLUS filter, but nothing that will oxygenate the water. Having a under gravel filter would fix this though.

i want to use a sand instead of gravel and the sand i have bought says on the bag "When used in conjunction with under gravel filters, a layer of filter matting is required below the sand." so i know i can use it with an under gravel filter. but are they worth getting?

If so do you have to put the sand at a different thickness at the front compared to the back (not sure why i think that just in the back of my head)

If not should I just use the filter it comes with and an air pump?

Is it possible to use a external canister filter as a return pump to pump from sump/refugium back to the tank?

I have a 350 gph canister filter, is it possible to use it as a return pump from refuge to my tank? I would place the filter next to the sump, the intake would be in the fuge return chamber and outlet would go up to the tank. Is something like this possible? I used my canister filter to suck water from a tank on the floor up to a 125, so I know it works, but not sure how well compared to a regular submersible pump. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

will buying a higher flow rate membrane of a reverse osmosis save more water?

It takes quite a few number of hours for the standard Watts Premier RO to fill 3 gallons of water. They say it’s 4 gallon of waste water to get 1 gallon of filtered water. What happens if I replace the RO membrane with one that has higher output, say going from a 50 to a 75 or 100 gallon per day membrane, will that save more water?
If you haven’t used RO, please do not comment. When I mention "wasted" water, I mean the city water that is wasted. as you know, on average RO wastes 4 gallons of city water to every 1 gallon of city water. please post only relevant answers.

———

Depends what you mean by "save more water". Reverse Osmosis converts normally sea (or saline) water to fresh water by forcing it through a membrane of a certain density. You can get a bigger one and you will fill your tank quicker, but as for saving water, don’t see the relevance as the water that is "wasted" is no good to you as it is brine.

Which solar panel would be appropriate when powering a 65L water tank?

I’m not sure about:

1) Which voltage 12 or 24.
2) How many amps
3) How many watts

Basically all it does is, cools water (from 50 deg C) so it can be drinkable (filtering has been sorted out). Again, the tank ~ holds 65 liters.

Bert & Stanley

My friend and I cleaned Bert & Stanley’s fish tank and were able to get the filter working again. My friend placed the filter pointing in the wrong direction, so it created a whirlpool inside the tank. Since then, the filter has been set back to the original position, so there is no longer a whirlpool. Stanley is the larger Goldfish. This video is dedicated to Bert, who passed away February 3rd 2010. He lived to be over a year old.
